Area Firefighters Return to “Silo Fire” at East Farms on Sunday

UPDATE

Cherokee County firefighters have had a tough time dealing with a Silo Fire last week – and a huge number of re-starts.

Both the Leesburg and Sand Rock fire departments were dispatched to yet another of those situations over the weekend Sunday and members of the Centre, Leesburg, and Sand Rock departments were called out Saturday morning (April 1st), shortly before 10:00, in regard to the fire re-starting.

Firefighters had quickly arrived at East Farms, located on County Road 5 in Cherokee County Wednesday evening, as members from the Centre, Leesburg, Tucker’s Chapel and Sand Rock departments all arrived to bring the blaze under control, shortly after 7:00pm.

We spoke with owner John Bert East at around 11:00 last Thursday morning – and he said that the fire appeared to have been electrical in nature.

East also had great praise for all the firefighters who showed up to help with the first fire and the subsequent re-starts.

Fortunately we have no reports of anyone being hurt.
