Spring Garden softball team goes 3-1 in Spring Swing at JSU

JACKSONVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers went 3-1 in the Spring Swing Softball Tournament at Jacksonville State’s University Field on Monday and Tuesday. They began the tournament with an 11-0 victory over Gaylesville, then fell 9-2 to Randolph County.

Spring Garden opened Tuesday play with a 5-3 win over Ariton and finished the tournament with a 6-4 victory over Appalachian to even its record at 6-6.

In the win over Gaylesville, Avery Steward tossed a one-hitter with a walk and three strikeouts. She also doubled, walked twice and scored three runs at the plate.

Kayley Kirk went 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Helena Ingram was also 3-for-4 with a double, a run and two RBIs. Madi Ham went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and a RBI. Addie Word went 2-for-2 with a run and a RBI.

Maggie Jarrett doubled and drove in two runs. Layla Ingram had a hit, a run and two RBIs. Lilly McCain finished with a hit.

In the loss to Randolph County, Steward doubled and scored a run. Kayley Kirk doubled and drove in a run. Helena Ingram also doubled.

Layla Ingram had a hit and scored a run. McCain and Makenzie Butler both had a hit. Maggie Reedy drew a walk.

Steward suffered the loss after working two innings. She gave up three earned runs on 11 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

On Tuesday against Ariton, McCain went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. She also picked up the win in the circle after tossing 5 2/3 innings. She scattered three earned runs on 12 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Layla Ingram doubled and drove in two runs. Ham had a hit and drove in two runs. Jarrett doubled, scored a run and drove in another. Helena Ingram and Word doubled and scored a run. Kirk also doubled. Steward had a hit and scored a run.

Spring Garden scored four runs in the top of the first inning and held on for the win against Appalachian.

McCain homered and finished with three RBIs. Layla Ingram went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBIs. Kirk was also 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, a walk and a run. Steward went 2-for-3.

Helena Ingram had a hit, a walk, a run and a RBI. Maggie Jarrett doubled and Ham had a hit.

Steward earned the win in the circle after working 3 2/3 innings. She gave up four earned runs on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
