Piedmont softball reaches semifinals in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA — After winning two in the Hixson (Tenn.) High School tournament Friday, the Bulldogs went 1-2 Saturday, falling to Tennessee Class 2A state champion Alcoa 1-0 in the semifinals.

Piedmont had runners on second and third bases with two outs in the sixth inning, but Cacey Brothers grounded out. The game ended on time limit.

Cayla Brothers, Armoni Perry and Ava Pope each had one of Piedmont’s three hits in Alcoa game. Savannah Smith limited Alcoa to three hits and one earned run with two strikeouts in five innings.

Piedmont split two games earlier in the day, beating Ooltewah 13-0 and falling to Girls Prep School 8-6.

Against Ooltewah, Emma Grace Todd struck out eight of the nine batters she faced while pitching a perfect three innings.

Pope and Jenna Calvert and drove in three runs apiece. Pope hit a double.

Smith had a triple, two runs and an RBI. Jaycee Glover hit a double with a run and RBI.

Morgan Studdard drove in two runs. Cacey and Cayla Brothers had an RBI apiece.

Against GPS, Smith hit a solo home run. Sarah Goss and Cacey Brothers had two RBIs apeice, and Cayla Brothers had a single and RBI.
