Georgia State Patrol Says Driver Had ‘Open Container’ When Wreck Occurred

New information released by the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome says that a truck driver involved in a crash in Menlo last Friday (March 10th) had an open container of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Troopers responded to the accident at 11:17am on Friday on Peach Orchard Road in Menlo. The tractor trailer was traveling southbound on Peach Orchard Road and its driver missed the entrance to the Trager Pellet Mill and hit a mailbox – then traveled off the west side of Peach Orchard Road and overturned finally coming to rest on its passenger side.

The driver of the truck was transported to Atrium Medical Center in Rome by Atrium EMS with minor injuries.  The driver was cited for having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, and failure to maintain a single lane.  Peach Orchard Road was closed for most of the day for vehicle removal.

The Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome said Monday that the crash report hasn’t been completed and the name of the driver has not yet been released.
