Mr. Jerry William “Bill” Cobia

Mr. Jerry William “Bill” Cobia was born February 6, 1949, at what was then Floyd County Hospital in Rome, GA. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cobia (Margaret Williams Cobia). He was a beloved grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Samuel Cobia (Pluma Blackburn Cobia) of the Cedar Bluff area. His maternal grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sidney Williams (Hattie Eugenia Hart Williams).

His immediate family includes his sister, Ellen and her husband J. Thomas Neal, Jr. beloved niece, Donna Neal Reed and her daughter Staci of Dalton, GA his nephew Michael Thomas Neal and his family, Brandi O’Hayer Neal, Keegan and Conor, of Savannah, GA. First cousins are George Moore of Montgomery, AL, Dr. Debra Cobia of Carrollton, GA, Randy Cobia of Cedar Bluff, AL, Dr. Jane Cobia of Sylacauga, AL and Kathy Summers Hampton of Tuscaloosa, AL.

He was a graduate of Cedar Bluff High School, Coosa Valley Tech and Alabama School of Trades. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Methodist. He worked in the family business and as a small boy would get up, put on his boots at 3:00 am to go on a wrecker call because he “did not want his daddy to go out in the cold and dark by himself.” He was a hard worker for many years and cared for his parents in their declining years.

Male cousins will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the 1967 and 1968 classes of Cedar Bluff High School, 1968 graduating class of Gaylesville High School, Dan Young, David Young, Harry Moore, Jerry Stokes and John Coggin.
