Centre City Council Meeting – March 14th 2023

The Centre City Council met for their Bi-Monthly meeting Tuesday evening. Among the usual business handled, Centre’s building inspector, Raymond Matthews, informed the council that the plumbing is temporarily fixed at the Star Building but will need further work to fully correct the problem.

Raymond also updated the council on the purchase of a new maintenance truck for the city. Originally the council approved the purchase of a new Ford from Stivers Ford in Montgomery. Raymond explained Stivers has yet to begin building the truck and it would be 90 days after a build date is decided before the truck would be delivered. Raymond is now looking at a suitable replacement; a Chevy, available now, from Donohoos Chevrolet in Fort Payne. The council approved the purchase of the Chevy for $44,126.44.

The council approved a long-awaited furniture replacement for the administrative building in the amount of $9,449.00 (+shipping price) as well as the purchase of a second Chevy Tahoe for Centre PD at $51,759.76, along with a Radar unit cable for $456.00 and a Radar Unit for $2,047.00.

Dee Miller’s easter egg drop event with WEIS Lake Events is slated for April 8th, the council approved the use of the softball field for the venue.

Mayor Mansfield informed the council that the Magistrate building HVAC is out, multiple service technicians have stated that the unit is on its last leg; and should be replaced. A couple of quotes were taken, with the lowest being $8,250.00. The council approved the purchase.

The next Centre City Council meeting will be Tuesday, March 28th.
