Fatal fire on Church Street Saturday morning
One person is dead following a residential fire in North Rome Saturday morning.
According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning, firefighters responded to the residence on Church Street at 10:43 that morning. A man in the home, 36 year old Phillip Steven Brand, died in the fire. A woman, believed to be Brand’s girlfriend was able to make it out of the burning home and call 9-1-1.
The fire marshal’s office is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
At this time, the preliminary investigation points to it being accidental in nature.
Brand’s body will likely be sent for an autopsy.
