A  Correctional Officer was recently arrested, on a charge of bringing contraband into Hays State Prison in northwest Georgia.

The Georgia Department of Corrections launched an investigation into illegal activity by the employee and was arrested last week, and identified as Michael James Ward.  According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader – Ward has been charged with the unlawful possession of methamphetamine, with unlawful possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.  Additionally, he was charged with violation of oath by a public officer and crossing of guard lines with drugs.

According to arrest reports Ward was placed under arrest by agents with the Georgia Department of Corrections on Thursday at 5:17pm.
