Two Arrested in Connection with Calhoun County Incident Last December

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, two men were taken into custody on Thursday morning, in connection with a traffic stop, during which shots were fired in December of 2022.  According to departmental reports, a deputy had stopped a man on a stolen motorcycle in the DeArmanville community – when another person drove by and fired several shots with a pistol.

No one was injured by that gunfire.

An investigation was immediately launched by the Sheriff’s Office, Oxford Police, the FBI’s North Alabama Violent Crime Task Force and several other agencies,

Thomas Griffith, age 24 of Anniston, was the motorcyclist that had been stopped, and the motorcycle was indeed reported stolen.

Investigators determined that Griffith had conspired with a 31-year-old resident of Heflin – Charles Kilgore, to have Kilgore drive past and fire shots, in the hope that the deputy would pursue Kilgore and not arrest Griffith.

Thursday morning, the FBI arrested both men on charges being a felon in possession of a firearm.  Also, state charges could be forthcoming.
