Rome Police Investigating a Shooting Death Over the Weekend / UPDATED

UPDATED

Police released the name Monday of a Woodstock woman who was shot and killed Saturday at a home in Rome.

When Rome Police arrived at the residence at 3 Shadow Brook Drive Saturday, they found 51 year old Iris Dail Edwards suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. A woman was attempting life saving measures but was unsuccessful. Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene by officials from the Floyd County Coroner’s office.

21 year old Ellis Geoffery Marrs was taken into custody by the Rome PD after he told them he had shot someone. Officers seized the gun used in the shooting. It was on top of a grill with the magazine ejected.

It was determined that a domestic altercation occurred between the shooter and the victim with others in the house being involved.

Marrs is lodged in the Floyd County Jail on murder charges and is being held without bond. Police say additional charges are possible pending the outcome of the investigation.
