A Grant man has been charged with his mother’s murder following a chase Tuesday.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office stated deputies and members of the Grant Police Department responded to a call that evening for a welfare check on an elderly female living on Kennamer Cove Drive in Grant.

Entering the residence, authorities discovered the body of Eddra Jeffries Jones, 78, in a bedroom. While on scene a deputy witnessed a man, later identified as Brian O’Dell Jefferies, 45, of Grant, driving by in a vehicle matching one owned by Jones.

Grant Police Chief Chris Bearden tried to stop the vehicle – but Jefferies continued on and a chase ensued; it ended on Butler Mill Road, near the county line, when Jefferies pulled over and was taken into custody.

Jefferies, the son of Jones, is being held in the Marshall County Jail without bond – on murder charges.
