A Georgia man was killed when he was struck by a Freightliner tractor-trailer in Cleburne County. Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Gutierrez J. Enain. He was 28 and lived in Smyrna. The wreck happened at 4:20am Wednesday on I-20 about four miles west of Heflin – according to Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal.
Authorities said that Enain was a passenger involved in a previous crash. He exited the wrecked vehicle and “subsequently laid down in the roadway.” It was then, Enain was struck by the 2023 Freightliner driven by Jonathan Kelley, 32, of Hoover.
Enain was pronounced dead on the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
