The Cherokee county school board met Wednesday for their regular board meeting. The board adopted several proclamations including; declaring February 2023 Career and Technical Education month, declaring February sixth through the tenth 2023 as National School Counseling Week, and a proclamation declaring February 15th 2023 as School Resource Officer Appreciation Day.
The Board also approved energy saving budget amendments for Cherokee County High School and Spring Garden School. Spring Garden School will also be receiving 3 new KUBOTA brand yard work vehicles after the board approved a lease/purchase agreement with Snead Tractor LLC for two mowers and a tractor.
During the session the board also approved the 21st CCLC External Evaluator Agreement for Cedar Bluff School as well as the Service agreement with Johnson Controls for Centre Elementary School. The board decided on accepting the bid for a new CNC Laser Engraver for CCCTC from Redmond & Son which was the lowest responsible bidder.
Several personnel actions were given the thumbs up by the council including, one resignation with Mark Pickle leaving Gaylesville School, effective February 1st; one classified placement with Colby Pruitt joining Centre Elementary as Special Education Paraprofessional; two contract changes with David Wright, custodian at Centre Elementary going from a 10 month contract to a 12 month contract and Sandy Phillips, Special Education Paraprofessional going from 8 hours to 7.5 hours; three contract positions with Beverly Mobbs getting an extended leave temporary contract at Ceder Bluff School, along with Amanda McDaniel and Mandi Caldwell both getting homebound contracts; 2 Principal contracts with Torey McDaniel getting their principal contract approved at Cedar Bluff School, and Brett Keasler getting their principal contract approved at Cherokee County Career and Technology Center.

Two leaves of absence were also approved by the board during the session including; Nathaniel Hunter, computer/network specialist with the Technology Office; and Anita Nation, school secretary at CCCTC.
Two Job postings are open with Cherokee County Schools, an English Language Arts Teacher at Gaylesville and a Pre-K Teacher – Extended leave temporary contract at Sand Rock.
The next Cherokee County School Board meeting will be on March 9th at 5pm in the Gaylesville Library.
