Cedar Bluff boys’ basketball season ends in sub-regional action at Skyline

SCOTTSBORO – Bucky Leek scored a game-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. MJ Adams added 14 points, but they weren’t enough to lead the Cedar Bluff Tigers past eighth-ranked Skyline in Class 1A boys basketball sub-regional action on Tuesday. The Tigers’ season ended with a 65-54 setback.

Eli McFry managed a pair of treys and had nine points for the Tigers (15-13). Dylan Kinard scored eight points, all in the second half.

Jayten Prince led four Vikings (23-9) in double figures with 18 points, including an 8-of-8 performance from the free-throw line. Chase Bickers rang for 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Scott York added 11 points and Bryant Kennamer came away with 10 points. Will Avans and Dillon Stephens finished with six and five points respectively.

Skyline led at each of the quarter breaks. The Vikings held a 14-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 31-16 edge at halftime. They took a 47-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Skyline advances to the Northeast Regional at Jacksonville State on Monday. The Vikings will face Winterboro, which defeated Appalachian 68-61 in other sub-regional action on Tuesday.
