Mr. Justin (J.R.) Russell Smith

It is with a broken heart and great sadness that I announce the death of my beloved son, Justin (J.R.) Russell Smith. J.R. was a graduate of Jacksonville State University and an Afghanistan veteran. He loved animals and people, especially his daughter, his mother, his nephew and his uncle. He was a generous man and a Christian. He loved to travel and to study other cultures. He was an avid reader. I believe he is in Heaven this morning with his dad, his sister, other relatives and friends who have gone before him, safe in the arms of Jesus. Justin was 46 years old. He will be greatly missed.

A funeral Mass will be 11 AM Tuesday, February 14th at St. Michael’s Catholic Mission Church with Fr. Rick Chenault officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Michael’s Church, burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens, immediately following the burial there will be a luncheon at St. Michael’s Catholic Church for the family and friends.

Pallbearers will include family and friends.

J.R. was born in Scottsboro, AL on January 10, 1977.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Morgan Smith, his sister, Lisa Smith Means, his grandparents and a friend, Jeremy Givens, step-father, Bobby Terry.

He is survived by his daughter, Mia Morgan Smith, the mother of his child, DiedDra Hughes Rench, his nephew, Ripley Means, his uncle, Dennis Pledger and his mother, Nancy Smith Terry.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Mission in Centre, AL.
