Collinsville girls advance, boys fall short against Fyffe in Class 2A, Area 12 basketball tournament

SAND ROCK – Collinsville’s girls and boys battled Fyffe to open the Class 2A, Area 12 basketball tournament on Monday at Sand Rock. The Lady Panthers earned a 44-35 victory, while the Panther boys fell short in a heartbreaker 53-50.

In the girls game, Tyla Tatum led the Lady Panthers (16-6) with 19 points. Rylee Tillery tallied 12 points. Gracie Griggs added six points and Nayeli Mata finished with five points.

Emma Twilley topped the Lady Red Devils with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Hadlee Powell posted six points.

Collinsville led at each of the quarter breaks. The Lady Panthers led 8-4 after one and 19-14 at halftime. They held a 26-22 edge after three quarters.

Collinsville advances to Friday’s area championship game at 6 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday’s Gaston-Sand Rock game.

In Monday’s nightcap, Dawson Cothran collected 17 points and seven rebounds, but the Panthers fell short to the Red Devils.

Gavin Lang and Colton Wills both contributed 10 points and five boards for the Panthers (14-12). Mason McAteer managed a pair of 3-pointers and had six points and five rebounds. Keaton DeBoard finished with five points.

Carter Wilborn topped Fyffe with 14 points. Eli Carter came away with nine points. Brodie Willoughby connected on a pair of treys and had eight points. Cooper Cox also had eight points. Eli Butts finished with five points.

Fyffe held a 15-11 advantage after one and a 31-28 edge at halftime. The Red Devils maintained a 40-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Fyffe advances to Friday’s championship game at 7:30 p.m. against Tuesday’s Gaston-Sand Rock winner.
