First Tagged Fish of 2023 Weiss Lake  Crappie Rodeo Caught

On Saturday, the first tagged fish in the Crappie Rodeo sponsored by the Weiss Lake Improvement Association was caught. It was worth $1,000 with Mark Abernathy of Lyerly, Georgia cashing in. Mark was fishing the Bay Springs area with a Slab Stick Dock Shooter rod with a Monkey Milk Pot jig.

Mark said he had to give his “net man”, Tim Starr all the credit for netting the fish but Mark kept the cash!! The fish was turned in alive at the Bay Springs Inn Motel and Marina.

After that one being caught there are 52 tagged crappie are worth $1,000 each, one fish worth $10,000 and more than 900 fish tagged fish are worth $50 each.

Fishermen wanting to cash in while crappie fishing on Weiss Lake through April 30, can purchase their crappie badges at participating merchants around Weiss Lake. For more information go the WLIA Facebook page.
