Collinsville girls, boys drop basketball games in DeKalb County Tournament

FYFFE – Both Collinsville basketball teams fell in the DeKalb County Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers dropped a 44-40 decision to Geraldine, while the Panther boys fell to Sylvania 68-53.

In the girls game, Sophia Wills connected on three 3-pointers and had 13 points to lead the Lady Panthers (9-6). Nayeli Mata managed 12 points on four treys. Tyla Tatum tallied nine points and Gracie Griggs finished with six points.

Hallie Burns scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Sara Smith sank a pair of treys and had eight points. Lili Ramirez and Kaley Brock finished with seven and six points respectively.

Geraldine held a 14-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but Collinsville surged out in front at halftime 25-18. The Lady Panthers held on to a 28-27 lead after three quarters, but Geraldine outscored Collinsville 17-12 in the fourth for the final.

In the boys game, Colton Wills collected a game-high 25 points and six rebounds for the Panthers (11-9). Keaton DeBoard and Mason McAteer both scored nine points. McAteer had a pair of 3-pointers. Dawson Cothran finished with five points.

Logan Wilks topped Sylvania with 14 points. Jonah Gurley rang for 13 points. Drake Whisenant and Joshua Scott both had 11 points. Griffin Haygood rang for eight points.

Sylvania led at each of the quarter breaks. The Rams held a 21-18 edge at the end of the first quarter and a 39-31 advantage at halftime. They were up 54-41 at the end of three quarters.
