In the first Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball rankings of the new year, Spring Garden and Piedmont continue to find themselves ranked in the top 10.

Spring Garden’s girls (20-0) maintained their top spot in Class 1A from the last poll. The Panther boys (8-6) fell one spot to No. 6. Piedmont’s boys (12-3) hold steady at No. 6 in Class 3A.

Several other area teams were nominated for the latest rankings: Class 4A Cherokee County’s boys (9-5) and girls (13-5), Class 2A Collinsville’s boys (11-6) and girls (8-4), Class 2A Sand Rock’s boys (13-6) and girls (11-9), and Class 1A Cedar Bluff’s boys (9-7) and girls (9-7).

The latest rankings are listed below, beginning with the girls.
