Spring Garden girls, Sand Rock boys top seeds in upcoming Cherokee County Basketball Tournament

CENTRE – The Cherokee County basketball coaches met Wednesday evening to determine pairings for the upcoming county tournament. This year’s tournament is Jan. 19-21 at the Gadsden State-Cherokee Arena. Gaylesville is the host school.

Spring Garden’s girls (20-0) and Sand Rock’s boys (13-6) are the varsity tournament’s top seeds. They won’t begin play until next Friday at 4 and 5:30 p.m.

The tournament opens next Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with junior varsity boys action between Spring Garden and Gaylesville, followed at 5:30 p.m. by Cherokee County and Sand Rock’s JV boys.

In the varsity tournament, Sand Rock and Gaylesville’s girls tip off at 6:30 p.m., followed by Cedar Bluff and Gaylesville’s boys at 8 p.m. The respective winners take on the top seeds next Friday.

Cherokee County and Cedar Bluff’s girls do battle at 7 p.m. next Friday, followed by Cherokee County and Spring Garden’s boys in the nightcap at 8:30 p.m.

Championship Saturday begins with the junior varsity boys title game at 4:30 p.m. The varsity girls championship is scheduled for 6 p.m., with the varsity boys title game at 7:30 p.m.

Spring Garden’s girls and boys are the county tournament’s defending varsity champions. The Lady Panthers will be going for their fourth consecutive county title.

Sand Rock vs. Gaylesville girls, 6:30 p.m.

Cedar Bluff vs. Gaylesville boys, 8 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 20

Spring Garden girls vs. Sand Rock/Gaylesville winner, 4 p.m.

Sand Rock boys vs. Cedar Bluff/Gaylesville winner, 5:30 p.m.

Cherokee County vs. Cedar Bluff girls, 7 p.m.

Cherokee County vs. Spring Garden boys, 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 21

Junior Varsity Boys Championship, 4:30 p.m.

Varsity Girls Championship, 6 p.m.

Varsity Boys Championship, 7:30 p.m.
