Piedmont Man Charged With Murder In New Year’s Eve Shooting

The Piedmont Police, Fire and EMS responded to a shooting incident at a residence in the 4000 Block of Old Piedmont Gadsden Hwy just after 11 pm Saturday.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they observed a 13 year old male of Piedmont who had been fatally shot.

During the investigation, it was discovered an altercation had occurred and ultimately a gun was discharged and the juvenile victim was fatally shot.

The investigation determined Paul Joshua Baker 19 of Piedmont was the suspect in the case. He was located at a residence in Cherokee County where he was arrested on a murder charge, transported to the county jail, where bond was denied by the Calhoun County District Court.

Police Chief Nathan Johnson said no further information would be released at this time.
