Cherokee County splits with Geraldine in Pell City Christmas Tournament

PELL CITY – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors doubled up on Geraldine in the Pell City Christmas Tournament on Thursday, winning by the final of 56-28.

Mary Hayes Johnson led the Lady Warriors with 13 points. Ella Garmany added 10 points. Ellisan Givens and Raechel Russell both sank a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points. Audrey and Ava Haygood finished with six and five points respectively.

Lili Ramirez topped the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points. Hallie Burns finished with six points.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to an 18-7 first-quarter lead and held a 32-16 edge at halftime. Cherokee County claimed a 45-23 advantage at the end of three quarters.

In boys action, Geraldine rallied past Cherokee in the fourth quarter to take a 50-44 victory in the Pell City Christmas Tournament on Thursday.

Jack Amos led the Warriors with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Jaden Wilson added 13 points. Malachi Horton and Cade Hopper both finished with five points.

Jaxon Colvin topped Geraldine with 20 points. Lucas Bryant added 14 points. Redick Smith and Connor Johnson finished with eight and five points respectively.

The two teams were tied at 13 at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors forged ahead 25-22 at halftime and led 36-34 at the end of three quarters. Geraldine outscored Cherokee County 16-8 in the fourth for the final.
