Warriors hold off Chilton County 71-70 in Pell City Tournament

PELL CITY – In the Pell City Christmas Tournament on Wednesday, the Cherokee County Warriors held on for a 71-70 victory over Chilton County.

Jack Amos led the Warriors with 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Cade Hopper rang for 20 points, including six treys. Landon Caldwell came away with 16 points and Malachi Horton finished with five points.

Jamon DeJarnett topped Chilton County with 21 points. Demarcus Riddick added 13 points and Dermarion Caffey finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

The Warriors held a 19-18 edge at the end of the first quarter, but Chilton County claimed a 38-36 advantage at halftime. Cherokee County climbed back in front 59-52 after three quarters, then held on in the fourth for the final.

The Warriors play Geraldine on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

In girls action, the Lady Warriors blew out John Carroll by the final of 62-32.

Mary Hayes Johnson led Cherokee County with 20 points, including a 10-of-11 performance from the free-throw line. Nevaeh Gaidurgis added 10 points. Raechel Russell netted nine points, including a 6-of-6 free-throw performance. Vivian Connell and Ella Garmany both finished with five points.

Gracie Mills scored 15 points to lead John Carroll.

The Lady Warriors also play Geraldine on Thursday at noon.
