Spring Garden girls lead area basketball teams ranked in first ASWA poll of the season

Staff Reports

Following a 10-0 start to the basketball season, the Spring Garden Lady Panthers find themselves atop the first Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 1A girls rankings of the season. The first poll was released early Thursday morning.

In all, five area girls and boys teams find themselves ranked in the initial poll, with five others nominated.

Joining Spring Garden’s girls are the Panther boys (5-2), who come in at No. 5 in the Class 1A boys rankings. Sand Rock’s girls (6-4) are also fifth in the Class 2A girls poll. Piedmont’s boys (4-0) are sixth in the 3A rankings, and Cedar Bluff’s boys (6-1) are ninth in the 1A poll.

Among the others nominated are Cedar Bluff’s girls (6-1), Cherokee County’s girls (5-2), Collinsville’s girls (2-3) and boys (3-3), and Sand Rock’s boys (6-3).

The basketball rankings began with teams reporting results to their local sports writers, who then nominated teams for consideration. The next rankings will be in January.
