Austin nets 33 in Spring Garden girls’ basketball rout of Sand Rock

SPRING GARDEN – Ace Austin netted a game-high 33 points. She also collected nine rebounds, eight steals, five assists and two blocked shots in leading the Spring Garden Lady Panthers to a 72-42 basketball win at Sand Rock on Tuesday.

Kayley Kirk and Chloe Rule both scored 14 points for the Lady Panthers (10-0). Kirk also had four boards, a steal and an assist. Rule grabbed eight rebounds and also had a pair of steals. Maggie Jarrett finished with five points, five boards, three steals and two assists.

Katelyn StClair led Sand Rock (6-4) with 17 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Jacey Stephens connected on three 3-pointers and had 11 points to go along with three rebounds and an assist. Zoey Handy finished with six points, 11 rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Spring Garden held an 18-11 edge at the end of the first quarter, then went on a 24-11 run in the second to take a 42-22 advantage at halftime. The Lady Panthers held a 59-34 lead after three quarters.

Spring Garden travels to Cedar Bluff on Thursday before taking on Sand Rock again in the Cherokee Invitational on Saturday at Cedar Bluff.
