Class 3A, No. 3 Piedmont shuts out Oakman to advance

PIEDMONT – The Piedmont Bulldogs won their 16th straight first-round playoff game Friday night with a dominating 61-0 victory over visiting Oakman.

Quarterback Jack Hayes accounted for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing). Sloan Smith added a pair of field goals from 21 and 26 yards in the first quarter. Cody Holloway had a 31-yard interception return for a score in between. Piedmont (9-2) also got a 21-yard blocked punt return for a score to give the third-ranked Bulldogs a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Hayes’ two touchdown tosses were both in the second quarter. They went to Rollie Pinto from 27 yards and Thomas Propst from 19 yards. Hayes added a 13-yard touchdown run just before halftime to provide Piedmont with a 41-0 lead.

Dontavious Jordan scored on a pair of third-quarter touchdown runs from 55 and 46 yards. Smith also scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Piedmont travels to Colbert County (7-4) in second-round playoff action next Friday. Colbert County clobbered J.B. Pennington 57-28 in other first-round action on Friday.
