Spring Garden up, Cherokee County down in final ASWA football poll of the season

There were slight changes for area high school football teams in the final Alabama Sports Writers Association football rankings of the season, released early Wednesday morning.

Class 1A Spring Garden (9-1) moved up a spot to No. 5. The Panthers, coming off a bye week, host South Lamar (5-5) to begin the state playoffs on Friday.

Class 4A Cherokee County (8-2) fell two spots to No. 10 following its 35-16 loss at Class 6A Fort Payne. The Warriors host Corner (8-2) in their playoff opener on Friday.

Class 3A Piedmont (8-2) maintained its No. 3 ranking after its 41-20 victory at Class 5A Sylacauga. The Bulldogs host Oakman (3-7) on Friday.

One other area team received consideration for the final poll of the season: Class 2A Collinsville (8-2). The Panthers, who are coming off a 27-22 over previously unbeaten Valley Head, travel to Falkville (6-4) on Friday.
