More Than A Million Dollars Approved For Water Projects

The Cherokee County Commission on Monday approved three water infrastructure projects for Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville, and Leesburg.

In the Cedar Bluff Project, Northeast Alabama Water and Sewer Board ask the commission to approve the $434,075 water line upgrade along Alabama highway 9.

In Gaylesville, the Northeast Alabama Water and Sewer Board as the commission to approve $65,925 to upgrade water lines along Alabama highway 35.

In Leesburg, the Cherokee County Water and Sewer Authority as the commission to approve $573,750 to upgrade the water line along a portion of U.S. Highway 411.

The Commission approved the fund distribution for these projects from the ARPA Fund Account. County Commission Chairman Tim Burgess said these funds will help provide water for County residents for years to come.

Chairman Burgess told the Commission the Election School to train Poll Workers had been held in order to be ready for the Mid Term election to be held on November 8th. He said one Voting location had been moved. The Noah Baptist Church Polling Place has been moved to the Spring Creek Volunteer Fire Department at the intersection of County Roads 31, 22, and 16 at Peek’s Crossroads. All other locations will be the same.

County Administrator Daniel Steele announced the next County Commission meeting will be held on November 16th rather than on the second Monday of the month. This is to comply with Alabama State Law. The time of the meeting will 9 a.m. for the planning session and 10 for the meeting.
