Sand Rock closes out its football season by blanking Whitesburg Christian, 33-0

SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Wildcats knew Friday night would be their last chance to play football this season, but they ended on a high note.

Ace Ashley threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns, and Trace Haygood ran for 116 yards on 18 carries with two scores in leading the Wildcats to a 33-0 Class 2A, Region 7 victory over visiting Whitesburg Christian. The Wildcats finished the season at 4-6 (3-4 in region play). Friday night marked their only home win of the season.

Ashley tossed his first touchdown pass of the night to Jace Turner – a 16-yarder at the 8:07 mark of the first quarter. Nathan Haygood’s extra point made it 7-0 Wildcats.

Trace Haygood added touchdown runs of a yard and 9 yards in the second quarter. In between, Ashley connected with him on a 24-yard touchdown pass to put Sand Rock up 27-0.

Ashley’s final touchdown pass went to Brian Giles just before halftime. He finished completing 15 of his 23 attempts in the game.

Turner was Ashley’s top receiver with five catches for 57 yards and a score. Giles hauled in four catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Gatlin Cox led the Wildcat defense with six tackles. Everett DeBoard had an interception.

Kaleb Robinson led the Warriors (4-5, 2-5) by completing 9-of-25 pass attempts for 99 yards.
