HUNTSVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers secured a berth in next week’s state volleyball tournament with a pair of North Super Regional volleyball wins over Waterloo and Phillips on Wednesday at the Von Braun Center. The Lady Panthers swept both matches 3-0.

In a 25-17, 25-18, 25-11 win over Waterloo, Ace Austin delivered 12 kills and seven assists. Raylee Rice contributed seven kills and five blocks. Chloe Rule collected six kills and three blocks. Aubrey Sadler added four kills and a block. Avery Steward earned 27 assists. Maggie Jarrett collected seven assists, two kills and an ace. Layla and Helena Ingram both had five assists. Layla Ingram also had four aces and Helena Ingram had an ace. Kristen Lewis finished with three aces.

In a 25-14, 25-9, 25-16 win over Phillips, Austin collected 15 kills, two assists, a block and an ace. Rule earned seven kills and a pair of blocks. Jarrett came away with five kills, four assists, two aces and a block. Sadler contributed four kills, two assists and two blocks. Steward added 30 assists and two aces. Rice had two blocks. Helena Ingram posted four assists and an ace. Layla Ingram managed three assists and two aces. Lewis finished with an ace.

Spring Garden (38-13) takes on Addison (41-10) on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the regional semifinals. Addison also swept on Wednesday, defeating Ragland and Woodville.

While Spring Garden advanced, Class 1A Cedar Bluff and Class 4A Cherokee County’s seasons came to an end Wednesday as both dropped their regional openers. Cedar Bluff was swept by Covenant Christian and Cherokee County lost in three sets to West Morgan.

Cedar Bluff’s season ends at 17-22. Cherokee County finished at 30-26.

Two more area teams begin regional play today: Class 2A Sand Rock (33-9) and Class 3A Piedmont (17-12). Sand Rock battles Pleasant Valley (37-13) at 11:30 a.m. Piedmont takes on Susan Moore (46-8) at 9 a.m.
