CENTRE – The Cherokee County track and field team was honored before Friday night’s high school football game between the Warriors and Etowah. The Warrior boys finished fourth and the Lady Warriors finished seventh at the Class 4A state track and field meet in Gulf Shores back in May.
The Warrior boys were led by their 4×100 meter relay team, which took first place with a time of 42.95 seconds.
In the boys ambulatory events, Jack Sammit won the shot put (10-6), the 100 meter (23.36), and the 200 meter (50.68). Daniel Burton took first in the shot put (14-10).
In the girls events, the Lady Warriors were led by their 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams, which both took first place. The Lady Warriors’ time in the 4×100 was 50.04 seconds. Their time in the 4×400 was 4:09.13.
Kaylee Green earned a gold medal in the shotput at the Indoor Track and Field Championship, held at the Birmingham Crossplex, back in February with a throw of 33’9″.
