McAteer manages four touchdowns in Collinsville homecoming win over Ider

COLLINSVILLE – Collinsville eighth grade quarterback Mason McAteer ran for two scores and threw for two more in leading the Panthers to a 41-12 homecoming victory over Ider in Class 2A, Region 7 football action on Friday.

McAteer ran for 98 yards on 10 carries. He also completed 6-of-10 pass attempts for 176 yards for the Panthers (5-2, 3-2).

Keaton DeBoard accumulated 125 yards on 13 carries with a 21-yard touchdown for Collinsville’s first score. He also caught an 80-yard scoring pass from McAteer in the second quarter and stopped an Ider drive with an interception on defense.

Following DeBoard’s 21-yard scoring run with 6:14 remaining in the first quarter, Kyler Beene caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from McAteer with 8:46 to go in the second to give the Panthers a 14-0 advantage. McAteer later connected with DeBoard for an 80-yard score for a 20-0 Panther edge before the Hornets (2-6, 0-5) got on the board on Daniel Greeson’s 85-yard kickoff return. The try for 2 failed, keeping the score at 20-6.

McAteer scored a 14-yard run just before halftime to give the Panthers a 27-6 lead. He opened the third-quarter scoring with his 7-yard run that put Collinsville up 34-6.

Greeson set up Ider’s second touchdown with 57-yard kickoff return in which Benjamin Smith scored on a 28-yard pass from Dylan Grant. The try for 2 failed.

Hunter James scored on a 20-yard run with 2:11 in the third quarter for the final.

Collinsville travels to Whitesburg Christian on Friday.
