Seventh-ranked Spring Garden blasts Talladega County Central, 44-12

SPRING GARDEN – Freshman running back Clayton Sadler ran for 89 yards on just five carries and scored two touchdowns, and sophomore Connor Bates added 71 yards on just four totes and scored three times in leading Class 1A, No. 7 Spring Garden to a 44-12 thrashing of Talladega County Central in Region 6 football action Friday night.

Chapel Pope carried the ball twice for 30 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (6-1, 3-1). Cam Welsh connected on a field goal to give Spring Garden a 44-0 advantage at halftime.

Talladega County Central (0-6, 0-3) scored the only touchdowns of the second half on runs of 2 and 15 yards from Javari McKenzie in the third and fourth quarter respectively for the final.

Jonathan Baker collected 66 yards on seven carried for Spring Garden. Pope, Sadler and Reece Winstead each had an interception on defense for the Panthers. Sadler, Devin Lapier and Matthew Livingston each had five tackles.

Spring Garden travels to Pleasant Valley for a non-region game on Friday. Talladega County Central is at Donoho on Thursday.
