Gaylesville earns first football win of the season on homecoming

GAYLESVILLE – The Gaylesville Trojans have fallen short of victory a couple of times this football season, including last week’s three-point loss at Victory Christian.

They didn’t fall short on homecoming Thursday night as they won in convincing fashion.

Keylon Higgins ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned an interception 70 yards for a score in the Trojans’ 54-6 victory over Class 1A, Region 7 rival Woodville.

Seth Lee added 90 yards and a touchdown for Gaylesville (1-5, 1-3). Tanner Eads completed all five of his pass attempts for 79 yards and a touchdown with four 2-point conversions. Kyler Bradley had 65 yards receiving and a score. Hunter Allmond intercepted two passes on defense and returned one for a 40-yard touchdown.

The Trojans have an open date next Friday. They look to make it two in a row when they host Decatur Heritage on Oct. 14. Woodville (2-4, 1-2) hosts Decatur Heritage on Oct. 7.
