Man Falls to His Death Saturday at High Falls Park in DeKalb County

A 70-year-old man fell to his death at High Falls Park in Grove Oak over the weekend.

According to DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson – the man fell from a 40 to 60 foot ledge Saturday afternoon.   Rescue crews worked for hours to retrieve the body from the water. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is still working to notify family members – and has yet to release the name of the individual.

High Falls Park is located near Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County, and it features a 35-foot waterfall, a swimming area and hiking trails; this incident isn’t the first death to occur at the park.

In 2017, Mason Tompkins, 18 – died after jumping from a rock into a creek and failed to resurface; rescue personnel later found the teen’s body not far from where he had jumped – and back In 2014 a 16-year-old boy from Union Grove drowned at the park, and another girl was injured while swimming with friends.
