Cherokee County Coroner Releases Name of Driver Fatally Injured in Friday Morning Accident on County Road 1

Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald has informed WEIS Radio that the driver of an 18-wheeler involved in an early morning accident taking place on County Road 1 – was fatally injured.

McDonald pronounced Christopher Scott Mullins, age 47 from Collinsville dead at the scene.

We had reports of an 18 wheeler with a tanker trailer overturning Friday morning at approximately 4:20 on County Road 1 near County Road 3.  That was in front of the chicken houses owned by Miller Farms.  Floyd EMS, the Sand Rock Fire Department, and other emergency personnel, were all dispatched to the scene.

Early reports indicated that a small leak may have been coming from the tanker, and Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers advised everyone not yet on the scene, to hold back until the payload could be determined – he quickly contacted owners of the truck and was advised that the material was non-hazardous, and NOT a danger to anyone.

First responders found the driver trapped inside the vehicle with the coroner’s office being notified shortly thereafter.

That wreck remains under investigation by state troopers.
