September 10th is Suicide Prevention Day

~ From the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office:
Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life according to the World Health Organization (WHO). That’s about 800,000 people worldwide every year.  Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 29 and for every suicide that results in death, there are as many as 40 attempted suicides.
In 2021, suicide was determined to be the second leading cause of death in law enforcement. Across the nation, suicide claimed the lives of 150 law enforcement officers last year. According to the CDC, police are 54% more likely to commit suicide.
It’s important to have discussions around mental health, making it easier for others to talk about the tough times they are going through and seek professional help if necessary.
You are not alone. Help is available.
