Chesnut leads Sand Rock past Section, 35-6

SECTION – Sand Rock sophomore quarterback Carson Chesnut had a hand in all five Wildcat touchdowns in a 35-6 Class 2A, Region 7 football win at Section on Thursday night.

Chesnut completed 11-of-14 pass attempts for 127 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 100 yards on just six carries with four scores.

Chesnut connected with Jace Turner on an 11-yard touchdown pass with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter to put the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1) out in front 7-0. He added touchdown runs of a year and 28 yards in the second quarter to provide Sand Rock a 21-0 advantage at halftime.

Chesnut opened the third-quarter scoring with a 13-yard run at the 7:27 mark. He added his final touchdown on a 48-yard run with 4:59 remaining in the third.

Section (0-4, 0-2) scored its only touchdown on Jedidah Sparks’s 4-yard run on the final play of the game. Jr. Walker led the Lions with 99 yards on 22 carries.

Trace Haygood added 76 yards on 13 carries for Sand Rock. He also posted 7 1/2 tackles on defense. Everett DeBoard caught a pair of passes for 54 yards. Gatlin Cox caught four passes for 43 yards. He also had 6 1/2 tackles on defense. Logan Crider also caught four passes for 19 yards.

Sand Rock travels to Collinsville next Friday. Section is at Fyffe.
