No. 10 Cherokee County wallops Good Hope, 50-7

CENTRE – Cade Hopper and Jacob Cornejo both combined for three touchdowns apiece in leading Class 4A, No. 10 Cherokee County to a 50-7 victory over Good Hope in Region 6 football action in Centre on Friday night.

Hopper completed 8-of-10 pass attempts for 74 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 73 yards on 10 carries with two scores.

Cornejo collected 92 yards on 10 totes with two touchdowns. He was also 2-of-4 passing for 49 yards and a touchdown.

The win improved the Warriors’ record to 3-0, their best start since the state championship season of 2009.

Cherokee County jumped out to a 23-0 halftime lead. Cornejo got the Warriors going with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Will Frampton’s extra point made it 7-0 Warriors after one.

Frampton connected on a 40-yard field in the second quarter to extend Cherokee County’s lead to 10-0. Cornejo later found Jack Amos on a 41-yard touchdown pass, and Hopper scored on a 17-yard run before halftime, providing the Warriors a 23-0 lead.

Hopper opened the third-quarter scoring by throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tae Diamond. Cornejo collected his second rushing touchdown of the night on a 29-yard run to extend Cherokee County’s advantage to 37-0 after three quarters.

Hopper ran in for a 29-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 44-0 Warrior lead before the Raiders (2-1, 0-1) finally got on the scoreboard. Kaleb Jones scored on a 2-yard run to prevent the shutout.

Jones led Good Hope with 49 yards on 14 totes.

The Warriors’ CJ Boone added a 5-yard touchdown run late in the game for the final. He finished with 36 yards on three carries.

Diamond delivered 42 yards on nine rushing attempts. Malachi Horton caught five passes for 37 yards to lead the Warrior receivers.

Cherokee County travels to Oneonta on Friday. Good Hope returns home to face Fairview.
