Coming off their 21-14 victory over Piedmont last Friday that ended a 10-game skid against the Bulldogs, the Cherokee County Warriors cracked this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 4A top 10.
The latest poll was released early Wednesday morning.
The Warriors (2-0) are sitting at No. 10 this week after having been in the others receiving votes for the previous two weeks. Cherokee County opens Region 6 action this Friday at home by hosting Good Hope (2-0). It is the first football meeting between both schools.
Despite the loss to Cherokee County, Class 3A Piedmont (0-1) maintained its top ranking. The Bulldogs, who host Region 6 opponent Sylvania (1-0) on Friday, received nine first-place votes. They had a total of 199 points this week.
Winfield (2-0) is second in 3A with four first-place votes and a total of 156 points. Mars Hill Bible (1-1) also received four first-place votes and is ranked third. St. James (1-1), which had two first-place votes, sits at No. 4. Opp (1-1), which received one first-place vote, rounds out the 3A top five.
In Class 1A, the Spring Garden Panthers (2-0) maintained their No. 2 ranking following their 27-0 thumping of Coosa Christian. The Panthers received two first-place votes and only trail top-ranked Brantley (2-0), which received 17 first-place votes. Spring Garden hosts Wadley (0-2) to open Region 6 play on Friday.
Staying in Class 1A, the Cedar Bluff Tigers (1-1) dropped out of the rankings this week following their 29-12 loss to Class 2A Sand Rock last Friday. The Tigers, who were ranked eighth last week, host Woodville (0-1) on Friday.
