FOOTBALL JAMBOREE ROUNDUP: Piedmont holds off Fyffe, 21-20; Collinsville claims victory at Pleasant Valley

PIEDMONT – Piedmont senior quarterback Jack Hayes accounted for two scores as the defending Class 3A state champion Bulldogs held on for a 21-20 victory over Fyffe in football jamboree action on Friday night.

After Fyffe took a 7-0 lead on a Brodie Hicks 35-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter, Hayes connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass to Ishmael Bethel with 9:41 remaining in the first half. Sloan Smith’s extra point tied the scrimmage at 7.

Fyffe regained the lead on a 60-yard Logan Anderson touchdown run. Yahir Balcazar connected on his second extra point to provide the Red Devils a 14-7 lead with 8:10 to go in the first half.

Hayes accounted for another Bulldog score on 2-yard touchdown run with 2:56 left in the first half. Smith’s point after made it 14-14.

Both teams let their junior varsity play in the second half. Rollie Pinto put the Bulldogs in front 21-14 on an 8-yard run. Fyffe scored the scrimmage’s last touchdown on a 7-yard run, but the extra point was no good for the final.

Piedmont travels to Centre to face the Cherokee County Warriors on Friday to open the regular season. Fyffe is at Geraldine.

Collinsville 28, Pleasant Valley 7

PLEASANT VALLEY – The Collinsville Panthers claimed a 28-7 football jamboree victory at Pleasant Valley on Friday night.

Gavin Lang, Sylas Adams, Jaymison Tidwell and Trevor Terrell each scored touchdowns for the Panthers.

Collinsville opens the 2022 regular season next Saturday at home against Class 5A Crossville.
