Warrior ‘D’ forces five turnovers in 28-14 football jamboree victory over Trion, Ga.

CENTRE – The Cherokee County Warriors forced five Trion turnovers to help earn a 28-14 victory in football jamboree action on Friday.

Jeb Crane and Haden Wheeler both had an interception apiece. Jack Amos, Tae Diamond and Alex Johnson each recovered a fumble.

Speaking of Diamond, he ran for 41 yards on 11 carries with two scores from a yard in the first quarter and nine yards in the third. Jacob Cornejo collected 66 yards on 10 totes with a 3-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Quarterback Cade Hopper accounted for the other Warrior score – a 1-yard rush up the middle just before halftime to put the Warriors in front 14-0.

Trion turned the ball over on its first two possessions of the second half, both of which led to short Warrior touchdowns and a 28-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board late in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Logan Eller. Kade Smith scored on a 5-yard run for the varsity final.

Both teams’ junior varsity squads played the fourth quarter, in which the Warriors won 12-0. Quarterback Carson Tittle tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ben Frampton. Quarterback Cooper Allen connected with Keyshon Woods on a 16-yard score just before the end of the scrimmage for the final.

Cherokee County opens the 2022 regular season next Friday against Model High School in Rome, Ga.
