COVID’s Not Over – But Cherokee County Doing Better than Most

Well, don’t get TOO comfortable yet.

The U.S. is dealing with another surge in COVID cases, due to the highly transmissible BA.5 variant.  As of July 20th, the U.S. had recorded more than 89.9 million COVID-19 cases with over 1 million coronavirus-related deaths.   Alabama has had more than 1.4 million COVID cases with 19,850 deaths.

Stacker compiled a list of counties with the highest COVID infection rates in the state of Alabama, using information from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and vaccination data from Covid Act Now.   Counties were ranked by the highest infection rate per 100,000 residents within the week leading up to July 19th.  Fortunately, Cherokee County didn’t make the top 10 – the top 20 or even top 50 neither did any other nearby counties with the exception of Calhoun County which came in at #49.

You can see the list of 1-50 here.
