One Dies from Injuries Sustained in Saturday Night Crash in Cherokee County

According to a statement issued by Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency in Decatur a single-vehicle crash that occurred in Cherokee County on Saturday night resulted in fatal injuries to a Georgia man.

Lauren Kenneth Owens, age 39 of Folkston, was critically injured when a 2005 Chevy Malibu in which he was a passenger left the roadway and then struck a tree as well as a culvert.  Brandy Murphy Taylor, age 41 of Hazlehurst, Georgia was also a passenger in that vehicle and she was also injured.  Both were transported by helicopter to UAB for treatment; the following day, Sunday (July 17th), Owens succumbed to his injuries at the hospital; meanwhile the driver of the vehicle, identified as Elizabeth Renea Brogdon, age 37 of Piedmont, was unhurt.

The crash took place around 9:20pm on County Road 19, near County Road 6 roughly 9 miles north of Piedmont inside Cherokee County.

That wreck remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
