Fire at Storage Units in Cedar Bluff Early Monday Afternoon / UPDATED

At around 1:10pm Monday, units from several fire departments were dispatched to a report of fire across from the Piggly Wiggly in Cedar Bluff.

According to eyewitness reports, flames were visible at the storage buildings, located at 3797 Alabama Highway 9, across the street from the grocery store.  Police arriving on the scene, stated that a home near the building had already started to smoke from the heat.  According to the Centre Fire Department, they, along with units from the Cedar Bluff, Gaylesville and Spring Creek Fire Departments responded to the scene; the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office,  Atrium/Floyd EMS, and the Cedar Bluff Police Department all responded as well.

According to Centre Fire Chief Jeremy Lee two storage units received heavy damage – and several additional units suffered smoke and water damage; the structure next to the units did receive some heat damage however quick action by emergency crews at the location managed to keep the fire from spreading.

It’s still unclear what led to the buildings catching fire.

According to Chief Lee, the Sheriff’s Office was called in to conduct an investigation – and fortunately there were no injuries connected to the blaze.
