New Scholarship Named in Honor of Cardinal Foundation Past Presidents

Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of Gadsden State Community College, is making an annual donation to the Cardinal Foundation in honor of the organization’s past presidents. The donation will be used to award a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a deserving student attending Gadsden State full time.

“It is an honor for me to donate to an organization that has been supportive of Gadsden State for a decade now,” she said. “It is fitting that we name the scholarship for those who have led other volunteers in raising funds to support our College and our students. Their service over the years has been very much appreciated.”

Past presidents include Brian Snell, Steve Hildebrant and Mark Condra. Tommie Goggans III will assume the presidency on July 1. Every two-year cycle, the scholarship will assume the name of the most recent past president. The first scholarship is named for Condra and will be awarded in $500 increments during the 2022 fall semester and 2023 spring semester.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be currently enrolled at Gadsden State and be in good standing
  • Must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate participation in Gadsden State activities, community and leadership
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from a Gadsden State faculty or staff member
  • Must participate in two Gadsden State and/or Cardinal Foundation events during each semester the scholarship is received and submit documentation of participations.

Applications will be reviewed and selected by the Gadsden State Cardinal Foundation Scholarship Committee.

In addition to the Past Presidents Honorary Scholarship, there are three other Cardinal Foundation scholarships available. Applications must be submitted by June 30.
