Local Areas Could Experience Thunderstorms Today (Monday, June 27th)

A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of eastern Calhoun, eastern Etowah and southern Cherokee Counties through NOON CDT.  At 11:20 AM the Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Jacksonville State University, near Jacksonville, moving southeast at 10 mph.

IMPACT

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Gadsden, Anniston, Jacksonville, Piedmont, Hokes Bluff, Centre, Cedar

Bluff, Fort McClellan, Centre Municipal Airport, Saks, Glencoe,

Weaver, Leesburg, Reece City, Sand Rock, Gaylesville, Tennala, Tabor

Road, Cherokee Rock Village and Cornwall Furnace Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
