Floyd County School System Recovers Money Stolen in Recent “Scam”

The Floyd County school system has been able to recover all of the remaining funds stolen from an outside source as the result of a recent “spear-phishing” incident.

According to a news release from the school system:

“We are extremely grateful for the assistance of the Floyd County Police Department, Chief Mark Wallace, and Major Jeff Jones as well as Ana Rodriguez with the Lakeside National Bank during this cyber security investigation and full recovery.”

Nearly $195,000 was stolen from the school system June 7th – after falling victim to a business e-mail compromise.  Nearly $190,000 was recovered a couple of days later, thanks to police and the bank.

Again, the remainder of the funds, amounting to just over $5,000, have now also been recovered.
