The Piedmont Aquatic Center has temporarily closed their pool due to an algae issue that bloomed quickly after the rain, along with possible contamination from bathing suits that have been in the creek or ocean.
This process was faster in draining the pool and power washing it, rather than treating it with chemicals.
According to a Facebook post put out by the Aquatic Center:
“Please be mindful of the swimsuits you wear to any pool, Mustard Algae can be transferred from swimsuits worn in creeks and lakes and can take over a large pool in less then 24 hours when paired with large amounts of rain that depletes chlorine levels that fights against algae growth.
The pool is set to re-open this Saturday June 11th at 10:00 a.m.
