Alabama Marine Patrol Urges Safety on the Water During Memorial Day Weekend

Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division want to   make it clear that they hope everyone has a great time over the holiday weekend, but they’re also urging safety on the state’s lakes and waterways, including Weiss Lake.

Steve Thompson with the Marine Patrol Division noted – “Along with ALEA Aviation, Troopers assigned to our Marine Patrol Division will be available to assist with any boaters in distress, along all of Alabama’s waterways – our state has many lakes and rivers which host a variety of aquatic and marine related activities – so, regardless of where you plan to enjoy your Memorial Day weekend festivities, our Marine Patrol Troopers will be out and on patrol”

Troopers will be conducting vessel safety inspections throughout this holiday period to ensure that every boat on the water is properly equipped with all of the necessary equipment including a personal flotation device (PFD) for everyone on board.

Troopers will be on the lookout for indications a vessel operator may be impaired – there will be zero tolerance for boating under the influence.  ALEA wants everyone to relax and enjoy the holiday, but be safety aware while on the water.
